Bluebird: Women and the New Psychology of Happiness ~ I'm reading Chick-Lit? No. Chick-Psych. You do know that I live with five women, right?
Besides, one of my favorite authors, Ariel Gore, has written this book on women and happiness. It hits bookstores TOMORROW. I've read an advance copy and found it very informative and thought provoking. Ariel weaves together material from a wide variety of sources, the findings of noted authorities (most of them men), the experiences of a panel of 100 real women (imagine that?), and her own life's experience, so as to paint a picture of what women are up against. I've found Ariel's book thought provoking because it's real world.
Now, a note to my Jesus Freak and/or church-going crowd: Ariel's book isn't a Jesus Freak and/or church-going handling of happiness. And that's a good thing for my thinking. I was talking about this book with a pastor last week who actually said, "A book on women and happiness? That must be a short book. 'Trust Jesus! The end.'" What's worse is he wasn't joking. You won't find "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life!" in this book. This is studies. This is experiences. This is emotions. This is real life. And this is the playing field women find themselves on in our society.
Pick up a copy. Give it a read. Then look me up and we'll chat about it.
